Pawanmuktasana is practiced in supine positing. You need to fold your knees and make a pressure over the abdomen for this asana. Pawanmuktasana helps to get relieved from abdominal disorders.

Pawanmuktasana defined:

It is a Sanskrit word. Pawan means wind and mukta means to send out or release. So, it is called as wind releasing posture. This asana helps to release wind from the intestine. That is why it is called as pawanmuktasana.

Technique of pawanmuktasana:

  • Spread your yoga mat on the ground and lie down on your yoga mat in supine position.
  • Bring your legs and hands together. Your palms must be facing the ground.
  • Bend your right leg and bring your right leg’s knee above the abdomen.
  • Hold your right leg with your hands and raise your head.
  • You can touch your knee with your forehead.
  • Maintain this position for about one minute then release your head and hands.
  • You can stretch your right leg. Practice with your left leg also in the same method.
  • After, completing with your legs one by one, you can practice with your both the legs together.
  • You might experience pressure over your abdomen while bending your legs and holding them.
  • You can do pawanmukthasana for three rounds.

Precautions of pawanmukthasana

Some of the yoga practitioners experience pain over the neck and back area while doing this asana. You may get it if you maintain your final position for long time initially. So, you can increase your time slowly. Persons those who have back ache can perform this asana without raising their head. This will help them to do pawanmukthasana without pain.

Pawanmuktasana helps for your bowel movements. However, you are recommended to perform it after evacuating bowels and bladder.
